It was one of the most hotly contested neighborhood rezoning projects in the history of New Orleans. Mary Mouton helped developers Neal Hixon and Chris Sarpy win city council approval to rezone a 70-year old RTA Bus Barn to pave the way for a Whole Foods Market. Many neighbors were in favor of the project and it was up to Mouton to mobilize the “Friends of Arabella Station” to carry the day. And they did. Mouton’s efforts won a national Award of Excellence from the Public Relations Society of America and a Silver Anvil from the New Orleans PRSA chapter.
